Are You Eating Pesticides and Don’t Know It?
from Beachbody Blog
You’ve heard you are what you eat. But maybe it’s more accurate to say you are how your food is grown? Organic produce can be expensive. In some cases, almost doubly as expensive as its non-organic cousins. But, is it worth the investment? Maybe.
Newcastle University researchers analyzed 343 studies investigating the difference between crops that were organically and conventionally-grown crops and discovered that not only were the antioxidants levels higher (up to 69% higher in some cases), but also that those fruits and vegetables contained “significantly lower levels of toxic heavy metals.” (For instance, cadmium levels were, on average, 48% lower.) And that conventional crops were four times more likely to contain pesticide residue. Their findings were published today in the British Journal of Nutrition.
